Public spaces of the city of Brno - theoretical work
Lelkes, Ivana ; Adamková, Jana (referee) ; Kopáčik, Gabriel (advisor)
Master´s thesis adresses the issue of public spaces of inner city of Brno. These spaces have good prerequisities to become attractive places for everyday use or for spending a good free time. These prerequsities include for example compact city structure, well defined public spaces, walking city distances, presence of public and commercial facilities and distinctive genius loci. But public spaces in these localities often do not fulfill their own potential and stay as average free space inbetween buildings. Thesis suggests a detailed system for categorisation of squares and streets in the inner city of Brno and examines the reasons for potential non-fulfillment on these typologies, it tries to find out the problems of public spaces and how they can be solved.

This location is closely to the nature, school and kindergarden and the city center, that is perfect for family housing and this project is interested in it. Area has a small scale of modest row houses that have oriented themselves to the garden and street. This creates two common rooms with a different character. On the surrounding buildings reacts the same principle which is in housing, that is oriented to the gardens themselves. The concept respects the privacy and the need to isolate themselves, but also gives rise to an awareness, observation and interaction among residents. The shape of the terrain gives the possibility of non-traditional arrangement of houses in levels. This is characteristic feature of the entire residential complex.

Mokrášová, Nina ; Dokoupilová Pazderková, Kateřina (referee) ; Nový, Vítězslav (advisor)
The planning area is situated north-east from the historical centre of the city of Brno in the district Brno-north. The main dominant of the site is a loosely built-up area of The Children's Hospital. The uniqueness of this place is also related to the city’s historical centre, the view of the Špilberk Castle as well as the possibility of recreation and comfortable living. It is important to link it up with the built-up structure of the city district while adapting the street to the requirements of today's city. Therefore, the aim of the work is to increase the attractiveness of the area and thus enable the inhabitants to enjoy a pleasant environment for living and a city life.
LAKE GENEVA METROPOLIS – MÉTROPOLE LÉMANIQUE
Pecková, Patrícia ; Dlabáč, František (referee) ; Koleček, Ivan (advisor)
This book combines a thesis project with a theoretical approach to the topic "The Metropolis of the Geneva Lake - Métropole Lémnique". It focuses on the transformation of the former industrial area of Sévelin, which lies close to the city centre of Lausanne. Thanks to analyses and observations of the environment, it is possible to perceive the current deficiencies in the connectivity of the different parts of the area and the lack of quality public space in the area. With reference to the theories of Jan Gehl, Herman Hertzberger and Duplex architects, the thesis seeks to explore the assumptions, qualities and significance of space within urban life and its social potential. The thesis seeks to suggest appropriate transformations of the environment at two different scales. The scale of the urban study and the scale of the architectural design of individual buildings. The aim of the whole work is to propose a new identity for the Sévelin area, which should reflect a lively and heterogeneous character that also refers to the neighbourhood's past.
